Lisa Nicholas and Melissa Martin PCsHappy February! As Thinking Day approaches, we are reflecting on the amazing sisterhood that the Guiding movement enjoys across the globe. We are also thinking about the many ways that we are better together and how girls empowering other girls is one of our most powerful attributes.

Are you looking for experience on a volunteer board, or a way to further hone your strategic, planning or management skills in a new way? Do you have a friend who might be interested? We are looking for strong, empowered women both inside and outside of Guiding, with passion, experience and commitment, from diverse communities, for several roles. Consider applying for one of our Ontario Council volunteer positions. We are currently recruiting for a Girl Engagement Coordinator that oversees the International, Outdoor Experiences and Girl Program portfolios, two Elected Members that help to plan exciting girl events, lead provincial committees and more, a Youth Forum Coordinator that is responsible for liaising with our provincial Youth Forum Pathfinders and Rangers and representing the girl voice at our Council table and one Deputy Provincial Commissioner to help execute on our provincial operational plan, lead teams and create initiatives that “Wow the Girl!” Applications are due by March 8th, 2020. Our first meeting is May 23-24th, 2020 with an orientation on May 22nd at 7 p.m. in Toronto (travel costs subsidized).

By now, you’ll know that the latest of our exciting upcoming girl-centred events is GirlJam 2020, being held at Exhibition Place in Toronto on September 25th and 26th, 2020. This overnight sleepover and amazing day of programming is open to all branches. Registration opens at the end of February and information regarding costs will be coming very soon. To equalize opportunity to attend for all communities across Ontario and Nunavut, we will be offering transportation subsidies to units attending; details on this will be released with cost information shortly. GirlJam Program Leads, Special Events Leads and other GirlJam steering committee volunteer positions are open today.

World Thinking Day 2020 – Threads Across Ontario and Nunavut is almost here! We can’t wait to see your #InOurHands #EntreNosMains photos of fun at our 24 locations all celebrating by participating in the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) World Thinking Day “Living Threads” – Diversity, Equity and Inclusion” programming. You can still get your World Thinking Day event merchandise here. Not able to attend the event? You can still get merchandise shipped to your home!

All SySTEMs Go – Round 2 is coming up this spring! Due to the roaring success of the National All SySTEMs Go events in Mississauga, Ontario Council has agreed to host two additional STEM events in partnership with Ontario universities this spring. The first will be held at Ryerson University in Toronto on April 4th and 5th and the second at McMaster University in Hamilton on May 23rd

Spring Outdoor Experiences are now live! There is more to OE than our fully planned and programmed weekends – consider a DIY option at a preferred vendor partner or a day experience.

Our best wishes for an awesome Thinking Day,

Yours in Guiding,
Lisa Nicholas and Melissa Martin
