Ontario Girl Guides of Canada

Travel the world through song with Sing Ontario Sing 2018-2019! This challenge is your passport to learn lyrics, melodies and languages from around the world.

Girl Guides of Canada is a member of WAGGGS, the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts. This songbook sorts songs by the five WAGGGS Regions: Africa, Arab, Asia Pacific, Europe and Western Hemisphere. Some songs come from the region while other songs are about a country in the region. The 2nd Meadowbrook Guide Unit has laid out the map for this challenge. Along the way, we hope you discover songs you’ve never heard and new ways to sing old favourites. The videos below can be your guide. As these songs have been selected from places around the world, please note that some lyrics contain cultural and religious references that may be different from your own. We hope that discovering these differences will lead to great conversations and learning opportunities. Please feel free to choose songs and sing alternate lyrics as you see fit for your unit. Now it’s your cue to sing and share your voice or video recordings to travel far and wide – bon voyage!

Requirements:

Sparks (seven songs)

• Sing two songs from each region: Western Hemisphere and Europe
• Sing one song from each region: Africa, Asia Pacific and Arab
• At least one song must be in a language other than English

Brownies (nine songs)

• Sing three songs from each region: Western Hemisphere and Europe
• Sing one song from each region: Africa, Asia Pacific and Arab
• At least one song must be in a language other than English

Guides (11 songs)

• Sing three songs from each region: Western Hemisphere and Europe
• Sing two songs from each region: Africa and Asia Pacific
• Sing one song from the Arab region
• At least one song must be in a language other than English or French

Pathfinders/Rangers (14 songs + teach three songs)

• Sing three songs from each region: Western Hemisphere, Europe, Africa and Asia Pacific
• Sing two songs from the Arab region
• At least one song must be in a language other than English or French
• Lead a younger branch in at least three songs, each from a different region
