National Service Project
What is the NSP?
GGC’s National Service Project (NSP) is a shared opportunity for Girl Guides to take real action on the issues that matter to them and make an impact on our world. Launched in 2010, the NSP is an annual challenge for GGC Members that is aligned with one of the UN’s Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). Find out more about the 2010 NSP: Eradicating Hunger & Poverty and how GGC met and exceeded the challenge.
2011 Theme
The theme of the 2011 NSP is EmPOWERing Girls which is based on the UN MDG 3 Promote Gender Equality and Empower Women. Girls in Canada have more opportunities than ever before but gender inequality still exists. By celebrating the great strides that girls and women have taken, and raising awareness and advocating for gender equality, GGC believes that girls can truly change our world.
Launched on World Thinking Day, this year’s NSP challenges all Units to learn about, raise awareness and take real action to advocate for gender equality and girl empowerment. GGC is keeping an online tally of every action Members take, with a nationwide goal of 50,000 hours of action.

Meeting the Challenge
First, our Members learn about the reality of girls and women in Canada and around the world. Then, they act by advocating and raising awareness about gender equality and issues that matter to girls. Finally, Members share: their thoughts, actions and the impact they’re making in the world.
Find out what girls across the country are doing for the National Service Project on our National Action Map, and how many hours of action they’ve taken with our National Counter.
