Message from WAGGGS – April 27, 2015

Our thoughts go out to the Nepal Scouts, their families, and all those who are affected by the earthquake that struck Nepal on Saturday, 25 April 2015.  We send a message of friendship and solidarity to our Girl Scouting sisters and their friends and families.

The news we have heard so far from our staff, volunteers and our Member Organization is positive, with staff safe and out of immediate danger and the Nepal Scouts National Headquarters also reported to be undamaged.

Communications have been extremely difficult, there is still no power and survivors are now staying in safe houses where there is no internet. Several aftershocks have also complicated the situation.

We know many of you wish to help in some way and once the situation has stabilised we will work with the Nepal Scout Association to understand from them what the best way is to support them.  In the meantime, if you wish to contribute now to the emergency relief efforts through international aid agencies, we encourage you to do so.

We will continue to update the WAGGGS and Asia Pacific websites and social media as we receive more information and to provide details on how you can help.

Thank you all for your concerns and offers of assistance. It is comforting knowing that we are never alone in times of adversity and that our Girl Guiding and Girl Scouting family will always be there with us, ever ready to lend a helping hand.

Yours in Guiding,
