Update: Support for those affected by Alberta wildfires

It has been truly heartwarming to see the overwhelming expressions of support from Girl Guides across Canada for those affected by the fires in the Fort McMurray area.  Many units in Alberta and other provinces have welcomed displaced girls and Guiders at their meetings and camps, providing a supportive space during this distressing time. At the Alberta Provincial Council level, members and staff are working to make sure that the girls and Guiders from the Fort McMurray area who are registered for Guiding Mosaic 2016 will have a positive camp experience.

There are many unknowns for the Northern Lights District at this time – wildfires continue to burn and the timing of re-entry is still undetermined for many residents. Once the situation stabilizes, the provincial council will be able to assess the needs of units in terms of uniforms, camping gear and other equipment. We will share ways you can provide assistance as that information becomes available.
