Participation in Remembrance Day activities and events

On Remembrance Day, November 11, Girl Guides of Canada (GGC) stands side by side with many youth and peace keeping organizations as we celebrate our country, our commitment to a peaceful homeland, and our respect and appreciation for Canada’s veterans and military personnel. In light of the recent shooting death of a Canadian solider in Ottawa and the fatal hit and run of another soldier in Quebec, it is anticipated that security at Remembrance Day events will be increased this year. GGC recognizes that Guiders, girls and their parents may have safety concerns and advises that, as always, Safe Guide  rules be reviewed and followed. Ultimately, the decision of whether or not a girl participates in Remembrance Day activities rests with her parents. Guiders should exercise understanding of such parental decisions and best judgement in choosing to participate with their units in Remembrance Day events, considering their sense of security in their location. Guiders and parents with specific questions and concerns are encouraged to contact SafeGuide@GirlGuides.ca
