Member Volunteer Opportunity

The Girl Protection Specialist position is an exceptional opportunity for a woman with experience in risk management and child protection policies to help ensure that Girl Guides of Canada is at the forefront of providing a safe experience for all members.

Work of the position:

You will act as a resource to the Manager of the Membership Administration department at national office to provide expert advice and communication regarding issues related to girl protection and risk management. You will also act as a resource for inquiries on girl protection matters from provinces.

In your role you will have the opportunity to:

  • Engage in active and ongoing communication with the Manager of the Membership Administration department
  • Keep the Membership Administration department informed of current issues, trends and concerns in the area of girl protection-related activities and projects
  • Promote screening activities and initiatives

We are looking for a member who holds the following qualifications:

  • Social worker or a degree in a related field (e.g. child and youth services, law enforcement, school counselor) with a minimum of four years related, direct experience working with children and youth
  • Conceptual framework for the practice of social work, particularly crisis management
  • Ability to provide advice with high-level assessment, analytical and critical-judgment skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively, particularly with emphasis on problem solving and crisis management

Reports to:

  • Manager, Membership Administration

Requirements for the position:

  • Experience in, knowledge of and a passion for risk management/girl protection issues
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team initiative
  • Critical, analytical thinking
  • Strong communication, organization and comprehension skills
  • Ability to communicate in a timely manner
  • Proficient in email communication

Term of the Position:

Three (3) years. The time required for the work of this position varies considerably; approximately 2-3 hours per month on average, but the work is on an ‘as needed’ basis. This position does not usually involve travel to national office.
