Part Time Bookkeeper
One Year Contract to start mid-August
Duties and responsibilities:
- Maintain records of all financial transactions for the organization prepared using Accounting Standards for Not-for-profit organizations, including accounting for Trusts and Reserves
- Perform key reconciliations and analyses on accounts and account groups to ensure accuracy and relevance
- Prepare periodic financial statements, reports and variance analyses
- Prepare statutory filings for HST, payroll remittances and charities returns
- Identify, develop and communicate opportunities for process improvement
- Communicate effectively with volunteers and staff
- Contribute to team efforts as required
The successful candidate will be:
- A self-starter with the ability to work with minimal direction
- Detail oriented able to apply accounting policies and procedures
- A good communicator and have strong people skills
- Trustworthy and able to maintain confidentiality
- Able to operate with a continuous improvement mindset
- Willing to submit to a criminal records background check
Preference will be given to candidates with:
- Formal training with a recognized educational institution in bookkeeping or accounting
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in bookkeeping
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements for HST, payroll and charities
- Experience using Sage Accounting systems with departmental accounting
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite of products with special emphasis on Excel
- Familiarity with Office 365 would be an asset
