LEAP 2019

LEAP camp

Take a LEAP into outdoor adventure, a LEAP outside your comfort zone and a LEAP into participating in a unique camping experience! Guides, Pathfinders, Rangers and Trex (born 2001-2009) are invited to join nearly two thousand Guiding friends next summer for an adventure at LEAP 2019 on August 4-10th, 2019 at Doe Lake Girl Guide Camp.

The Intent to Register form is now available. This quick and easy-to-complete web form is the first step in the registration process for LEAP, before full registration opens in fall 2018. Your response will help us assess interest and plan accordingly for camp.

Please let us know if your camper would like to attend by completing the Intent to Register form

Girls who are interested in attending may submit their Intent to Register in one of two ways:

  1. Ask your Unit Guiders about forming a patrol of girls from your unit or community to travel to and attend LEAP together; your Guiders can submit the Intent on behalf of a girl and her Guiding friends.
  2. Individual girls, with their parents, may submit the Intent to Register. Individual girls will be matched with other individual girls from across Ontario and Nunavut who also wish to make new Guiding friends and form a complete group, with volunteer Guider patrol leaders providing supervision.

What is LEAP?
LEAP 2019 is a provincial camp designed for adventurers and explorers and will host up to nearly two thousand campers and volunteers from across Ontario and Nunavut. LEAP is an outstanding and massive summer adventure just for Guides, Pathfinders and Rangers (born 2001-2009).

A LEAP camper will discover everything she can be while participating in incredible Guiding activities, making memories, developing confidence and leadership skills and meeting many new friends from across Ontario and Nunavut.

Girls can expect to choose from dozens of program options. Sample activities may include high-adrenaline experiences like rock climbing and high ropes courses, classic camp fun like archery and hiking, opportunities to cool down at the beach with swimming, canoeing and kayaking, sailing and stand-up paddleboarding, getting creative with special fine arts and craft projects like pottery and painting, conducting innovative STEM experiments like robotics, participating in meaningful community service projects, off-site adventures and much more.

Age Range
LEAP is for girls of Guide age and up (Guides born in 2009 through to Rangers* born in 2001). Girls who are 9-17 years old by Dec 31st, 2018 are eligible to attend LEAP as campers.
*Rangers who are 18 years old at the time of camp can either attend as a participant or join in as adults, provided their adult membership screening is complete.

Who can register
Camp registration is open to a) patrols of Girl Guides of Canada, Ontario Council members and b) individual girls who wish to be matched with partial patrols (subject to availability). Patrols will camp in tents together during LEAP and are expected to bring their own basic equipment including tents for sleeping and personal gear. Out of province registration coming soon!
In order to provide as many girl opportunities as possible, we ask that patrols adhere to safe guide ratios only.
LEAP Patrol Ratio Examples:
Two Guiders for patrols of 1-14 girls
Three Guiders for patrols of 15-21 girls
Four Guiders for patrols of 22-28 girls
Five Guiders for patrols of 29-35 girls, etc.

Our venue, Doe Lake Girl Guide Camp in Sprucedale, Ontario, is one of Canada’s best-loved GGC destinations. With 625 acres of waterfront property and special amenities on-site, girls will discover Ontario’s wilderness at a beautiful Girl Guides-owned camp, centrally located within a few hours drive of Toronto, Ottawa, North Bay, Sudbury and many other major Guiding communities.

The all-inclusive fee of $900+tax per girl and $350+tax per adult includes transportation (within Ontario and Nunavut only), catered meals, program supplies for girls’ selected activities, special all-camp events and experiences, unique participant-only swag and clothing and more. A 10% fee will be due at the time of registration in fall 2018 as a deposit, with the balance to be collected in 2019 to allow time for fundraising and preparation.

Patrols are encouraged to fundraise through cookie sales and other Guiding-approved fundraising activities to make the camp fee is accessible for all families in your patrol. Resources and ideas will be shared with registered patrols to assist you with your fundraising goals.

Fundraising Approval Process for LEAP:
Patrols looking to raise funds for the LEAP camp event must complete the Fundraising Approval (FR.1) application. Once completed, the application should be submitted to leap@guidesontario.org for assessment. The following guidelines apply:

  • Minimum personal payments of 10% of the registration fee must be paid by both girl and adult members
  • A minimum of 25% of total fundraising money must be raised through cookie sales
  • This is a provincial event, therefore the Trip Incentive program does not apply
