What is Ontario and Nunavut Youth Forum?
The Ontario and Nunavut Youth Forum consists of up to 11 youth members that are between 14-17 years of age from across Ontario and Nunavut. Youth Forum members apply to participate and are selected to provide input to Ontario Council. They are ambassadors in Ontario and may represent girl members in the media or at Guiding events. Youth Forum members are encouraged to take on projects, join committees and be engaged and involved in Ontario and Nunavut Guiding!
What Does Youth Forum Do?
The Youth Forum terms of reference are:
- To provide youth input and youth insight into Ontario Council’s initiatives and long-term decisions and provide feedback on Ontario Council’s long term direction.
- To consist of up to eleven youth members, aged 14 to 17 at the beginning of their terms, one of whom will be elected Chair by the Forum members.
- The Youth Forum Coordinator (on-girlforum@girlguides.ca) is the Ontario and Nunavut Youth Forum’s liaison to Ontario Council (advisory capacity only)
- To commit for a term of one Guiding year, with the possibility of one-year renewal based on age, performance and participation.
- To provide advice to Ontario Council on provincial initiatives such as proposed challenges, events, trips, program resources, promotional initiatives etc.
- To act as a Guiding ambassador. (This may include representing Guiding in the media, attending events on behalf of Youth Forum, or participating in provincial and national initiatives).
- To work with other members of GGC (provincially and nationally) to take on projects, assist with events etc.
- To stay apprised of current trends and issues affecting girls and young women in Canada.
- To help recruit members for following year, if there are spaces to be filled.
- Accountable to Ontario Council, via the Youth Forum Coordinator.
How Does Youth Forum Work?
Commitment: Youth Forum functions with a combination of virtual and in-person activities. You will be required to attend monthly Youth Forum meetings which are held virtually. Many members of Youth Forum will also be attending virtual monthly committee meetings on provincial initiatives. Youth Forum members are also required to attend two in-person meetings in Toronto (travel expenses covered), one in the fall and one in the spring. Youth Forum completes work digitally via email, TEAMS etc. We request that you monitor your assigned Girl Guides email on a regular basis.
