Frequently Asked Questions for Guiders

Why didn’t I receive an email about the cookie ordering site opening?

We are now delivering all Provincial news, including cookie information, in our weekly Guide ON eNewsletter (delivered every Tuesday). This helps us get the word out to everyone and ensures that nobody is missed. We can also target messages to certain people or communities and see who opened every message, which helps us with tracking and follow-up messages.

Do I still order cookies for the unit if I am no longer the Cookie Orderer for the next upcoming campaign?

If you are the unit’s current Cookie Orderer but will not be returning next Guiding year or are unsure if your unit will remain open, we do ask that you still place an order for the unit to ensure that they have cases available at the start of the next Guiding Year.

How do I know how many cookies to order if I don’t know how many girls are in the unit yet?

We suggest that you look at the number of cases you ordered in the previous campaign. When deciding on the number of cases to order, keep in mind the number of girls returning to the unit and if you plan on doing some group sales. Please remember that surplus is limited and available on a first come, first served basis.

What date will my cookies be delivered?

We will send out an email to provide you with the delivery date that your cookies are expected. If you need immediate assistance on this matter, please contact the Cookie Administrative Assistant at cookie.admin@guidesontario.org or (1-877-323-4545 ext 2441).

How much money does a case of cookies cost and how much money do units get to keep from each case of cookies?

One case of cookies costs $ 60.00. Units keep a portion of the proceeds (the “unit allocation”) from every case sold. The unit allocation amount earned by a unit during each cookie campaign may range from $11.00 to $13.75, depending on (a) the unit type (e.g., regular unit, Trip unit, or Trefoil Guild), and (b) the unit’s average “case per girl” rate. (For more information about the case per girl rate and how this impacts the unit allocation for each campaign, please see our Tiered Cookie Sales Incentive Program FAQ.) The remaining money from each cookie case will be taken out of your unit’s account. Want to know where the cookie money goes? Check out our fun infographic!

Is selling cookies mandatory for the girls?

As per the membership agreement completed by parents/ wards when registering their daughter/ ward “I agree that my daughter/ ward will participate in the sale of Girl Guide Cookies, the primary fundraiser of GGC”. “Participate in the sale of cookies” means either as an individual or in a group sale setting. Cookie selling not only raises money for Guiding programs but also provides the opportunity for girls to develop skills such as teamwork, self-confidence, planning and goal setting, community involvement, safety and awareness, courtesy and customer service. Are the cookies nut-free?

Yes! Girl Guide cookies contain no nuts or nut products. The nut-free logo and a nut-free statement are located beside the ingredient list on all cookie boxes. To avoid the risk of cross-contamination, our cookies are produced in a nut-free/peanut-free bakery to ensure that everyone can enjoy them.

Can a girl return cookies that she ordered but was not able to sell to the Unit Guider?

Yes, a girl is allowed to bring back her unsold cases to the unit; however, Guiders are unable to return any unsold cases that the unit still has. Unit Guiders can set a date that the girls have up until to return cases/boxes to the unit that they have not sold. This will provide the unit with more time to sell any cookies brought back. For more information, take a look at 10 Important Cookie Facts That All Guiders Must Know.

Can I request to receive the girls’ Cookie All Stars rewards earlier than June so I can hand them out before the unit ends for the year?

Unfortunately, no earlier request can be made. This is a National date and it cannot be changed. We suggest you collect the girl’s information in advance so that you are able to contact her to pick up her reward once you have received it in the mail.

Can I carry cookies over into the next campaign?

To determine the NO SELL date, use our Freshness Guarantee Date tool using the case code on the outside of the cookie case or printed on the cookie box tab (ex. 15183B).
If your cookies are passed their NO SELL date, these can no longer be sold. Remaining cookies can be used for internal Guiding events or can be donated to a local food bank or homeless shelter. If you are donating these cookies, please ensure that they are either removed from their box so that only the sleeve of cookies is donated or place a label on each cookie box stating the following "Donation from Girl Guides of Canada, Ontario Council - Not for Resale".
To manually determine the manufacture and NO SELL date, please note that the digits in the case code refer to the specific day within the year that the cookies were produced and the letter refers to the shift. Using the example 12261A, this code indicates cookies were produced in 2012 (12), on the 261st day of the year (261), on shift A. The NO SELL date is eight months from this date.
