Promoting Guiding

As ACL, you’re likely to get a number of questions from Guiders in your community looking to promote Guiding. Please direct Guiders to the Promoting Guiding webpage which contains the latest information and resources to support public awareness and recruitment for GGC Ontario Council.

Outlined below is some additional information that will help you in your role as ACL to support Guiders who are interested in promoting Guiding on a local level.

Advertising & Marketing
Advertising and marketing are a provincial level responsibility. However from time to time, Guiders may approach you about local opportunities. In order to ensure correct branding and messaging, please direct Guiders to contact Ontario's PR Adviser at on-pradviser@girlguides.ca.

Media
As ACL you may be asked to address the media regarding local happenings in your community. This can include such things as cookie selling, recognition events or other local activities. These are opportunities to provide positive messaging to the community from someone who lives in and knows the community best. Use these handy tip sheets developed by National to help you prepare for local promotions.

Girl Greatness Stories
What better way to promote Guiding than to “toot our own horn” and highlight our members living Girl Greatness? Encourage your members to share their stories of Girl Greatness.

Remind Guiders that a valid IR.1 must be recorded in iMIS for each person in photographs.

Social Media Sharing
When it comes to social media, we provide the tools for our Guiders to share with their social networks. Encourage your members to share these predesigned social sharing images.

Promotional Materials
Be sure to check out the current supply of promotional materials , available free to our members.

Please note: In Ontario, we do not carry all of the items from the National Brand Centre. Let’s not forget, these items are intended for non-members to create awareness about Girl Guides and to encourage them to consider joining as a member. Items are chosen based on cost and the appropriateness towards recruiting new members.

Graphic License Plates
Guiders in Ontario can show their Girl Guide pride by purchasing a Girl Guide graphic plate at any ServiceOntario centre.  Personalized plates can be ordered at any ServiceOntario centre or online at ServiceOntario.ca. Complete details on ordering graphic license plates are available at ServiceOntario.ca

For general questions about the graphic license plates, please contact Mary Porto, Communications Coordinator at communications.coord@guidesontario. For specific questions about the graphic plates, Guiders will be directed to contact their local ServiceOntario centre.

Display Materials
Each Administrative Community was provided a set of display materials: a retractable display banner, a sandwich board, an outdoor tear drop flag and a table covering set which includes a blue table cloth and two GGC table runners. Guiders will contact you to borrow these items.

It is the ACL’s responsibility to monitor and keep track of your community’s set of display resources and to pass them along to the new ACL at the end of your term.

Public Awareness Event Subsidy & Recruitment Event Subsidy
A public awareness event raises Guiding’s visibility in the community, while a recruitment event provides an active opportunity to recruit new members. Funding is available through Marketing & Communications to help offset costs with these types of events.

Please note: Cookie selling events do not qualify for subsidies.

Recruitment
Aside from the provincial level recruitment advertising, additional resources for recruitment are available for community level recruitment.

Talk to your Community Planning Coordinator about Intro to Guiding for Girls and Intro to Guiding for Adults. These events provide a glimpse of what Guiding has to offer for girls as well as for adults looking to volunteer.
