General Camping Information and FAQs
Capacity and Wait Lists
Be ready to sign up your child promptly on March 15 for your best chance to secure a spot. Space is very limited, and camps typically sell out with wait lists; our 2023 camps sold out within 1 hour of registration starting. Our online registration system can manage wait lists, so if an event is full, please add your child to the list so we can contact you if we are able to secure additional volunteers or if a space becomes available.
Did you know? Our camps are 100% volunteer-run. Guiders give time away from their busy lives, families, jobs, and other commitments to plan camps for months ahead of time, supervise youth during camp, and support your campers to have a fun safe experience, committing valuable vacation or personal days to girl empowerment. Payment and Financial Assistance
Fees vary by event - please visit camp pages to learn more. Girl Guides does not make any profit on camp fees, and we charge a cost-recovery fee. Costs are kept low thanks to the generous support of volunteer Guiders who donate their time at no cost.
Fee support can be made available for families with financial need upon advance application. Please speak with your Unit Guider in advance of camp registration to see what options are available in your local Guiding community, including opportunities to fundraise with additional cookies, receive “campership” subsidies, or explore other ideas.
If you have leftover fundraised funds, e.g. from a cancelled international trip or a fundraising surplus from a past camp, please speak with your Unit Guider or local Guiding team about how best to apply those funds to your summer camp balance owed.
Those who have access to Guiding financial assistance will be expected to pay 10% of the camp fee at the time of registration to hold their child’s spot and provide info ASAP to camp organizers regarding the funding, before paying the balance owed.
Transportation
Please visit event pages for more information about travel for each camp; some camps include transportation in their fee while getting to other camps are the responsibility of parents/caregivers.

Adult Members
Calling all Guiders! Summer camp events are 100% volunteer-powered. Registered Guiders who want to join the fun this summer should contact event organizers ASAP to get involved with summer camps. Commitments and expectations vary - please speak with the camp team to see how your availability and interests may match up with their event.
Typically, no or little camp experience is required, other than a current adult member status with Girl Guides of Canada, your valid police records check being on file, and a willingness to participate in pre-camp and/or during-camp volunteer activities like youth leadership, program support, waterfront supervision or facilitation, first aid and wellness, kitchen/food duties, and/or other needs specific to the event and any skills or certifications you may have (e.g. first aid, FoodSafe, lifeguarding).
Taste of Adventure 2024
Taste of Adventure is an adventure event for third-year Guides, Pathfinders, Rangers, and Trex from throughout the province, open to those born 2006-2012. Participants will have the opportunity to experience overnight trips and adventurous activities. Participants will have the opportunity to choose an overnight out-trip from options including canoeing, horseback riding, backpacking and bike packing. At camp, campers will attend a pre-activity orientation to prepare for their out-trip. They will learn the appropriate safety procedures for their chosen adventure and gain valuable adventure experience outside in the Whistler/Squamish area. All out-trips will be facilitated by Guiders experienced in adventure activities. In addition to adventure out-trips, participants will have the opportunity to go on a variety of day trips including hiking, climbing, biking and more.

Through participating in this camping event, participants will not only gain experience doing the adventure activities but will also expand their camping and leadership skills, and the best thing of all, make new friends while doing it.
Who?
- One Hundred (100) campers born between 2006 and 2012.
- 25 selected Guiders, preference given to those with adventure experience
Cost
The total value of this program is approximately $1,000 per person. Campers will receive a subsidy of $500, making the cost to the youth $500 +PST. This includes all costs associated with this trip (program, meals, accommodation, local travel).
Not included in the event fee:
- Kit list and uniform requirements
- Transportation to one of the departure locations (Lower Mainland and Interior BC)
If you need more financial support, check with your Area Camping Adviser to see if your Area and District Councils can assist you with this event. Girl members may fundraise part of their trip cost by following the fundraising policy and procedures (Governance Policy 01-19-01).
Qualifications
- Good physical fitness.
- Four (4) consecutive or non-consecutive Girl Guide camping (minimum of two nights in a row).
- Ability to adapt and work co-operatively.
- Ability to cope with daily camp activities.
- Completed swim or boat test record in iMIS by June 30, 2024.
- Guiders with Standard First Aid or higher and adventure experience will be given preference.
Application
A completed application includes:
- Youth application form or Guider application form
- OAL Adventure Camping Trip Log - TR.11 (PDF)
- One reference (Guiding) for Youth applicants; references must complete the Event Opportunity Youth Reference form
It is your responsibility to tell your references the details of the camp and to give them plenty of time to meet your deadline.
Adult Application Deadline: Submit your online application no later than February 28.
Youth Application Deadline: Submit your online application no later than April 20.
Incomplete or late applications will not be accepted.
You will be notified via email if you have been selected in April.

BC Sisterhood Exchange
Excited about camp? Love to meet other Guiders and youth members? This exchange is made for you!
BC Council has created a fund for cross-BC exchanges in 2023 – to build sisterhood, create camping opportunities, and support Guiding properties. Units partner to camp together twice over the next year. It's like pen pals but even better!
How does this work?
Each unit plans one camp or overnight experience at a local Guiding property. Both partner units participate in two experiences – one near home and one further away. The host unit books the GGC facility, brings food and other supplies; the guest unit travels there and pays their share of the camp fee.
Who can participate?
- All branches can participate
- Multiple units can join together. For example, two Island units with two Northern units, with all four units at camp
- Each pair must be two units that have not camped together before
- Each unit must partner with a unit from another region
What are the regions?
We have designated geographic regions, so that every unit can experience a different part of the province:
- Cariboo Chilcotin
- Island
- Kootenay
- Lower Mainland
- Northern
- Okanagan/Thompson
Who matches the units?
Use the form below to connect with a 'sister unit.' Let us know any preferences like region, branch, unit size, or other characteristics. Of course, guiders are welcome to pair up with a unit (or guider) you know from another region – as long as your units have not camped together before. All participating units must use the form to report/find your sister unit; funds will not be paid to unregistered units.
What funding is available?
Your unit will receive $100 per girl/youth participant through Unit Banking (UB) transfer. This will be paid roughly a month before planned travel to camp outside your region. Units must provide their planned camp locations and dates, as well as banking information. After camp, you will confirm with photos and final participant numbers. If camp is cancelled or participant numbers change, funds will be adjusted after camp.
What is the deadline?
Applications have now closed. The exchange deadline is completing two camps with your sister unit by August 31, 2024.
