National Youth Council Summer 2024 Application

banner with photo of two girls and NYC logo

Girl Guides of Canada’s National Youth Council plays a vital role in helping shape the future of Canadian Guiding and ensuring that girls’ voices are front and centre in everything we do. Council members serve as youth ambassadors for the organization and offer input to the Board of Directors on issues impacting the organization and that are important to girls in Guiding, while sharing valuable insight on the issues impacting Canadian girls. The National Youth Council is a key to ensuring girls’ realities are reflected in the programs and opportunities that Girl Guides of Canada offers, and to fostering an environment that truly encourages girl-driven leadership

As a member of the National Youth Council, you’ll be doing things like:

  • sharing your creative and innovative ideas about the future of Canadian Guiding and the issues that matter to girls and young women
  • providing a youth voice while advising the Board and its Committees on issues affecting the future direction of GGC
  • providing recommendations to the Board for national-level initiatives which benefit current and/or future girl membership
  • serving as a spokesperson and ambassador for GGC as requested
  • connecting with Provincial Youth Forums across the country

You should apply if you are someone who:

  • is deeply committed to GGC programs, services, and initiatives for girl members and has a demonstrated interest in the issues that affect girls and young women
  • loves connecting with other members and engaging in active listening
  • wants to develop skills in creative thinking, critical thinking, communications, leadership and planning (seeing the bigger picture)
  • is excited about Girl Guides of Canada as a hub of innovation for girls
  • is ready to step out of their comfort zone and challenge themselves
  • excels at teamwork
  • has a diverse life experience to share
  • is a Ranger-aged (15 - 17 years old) member (or entering Ranger-age in Fall 2023)

This is a great opportunity to give your resume and post-secondary applications a boost while building your leadership skills.

National Youth Council Terms of Reference

Please note that due to conflict of interest and ensuring GGC volunteers aren’t over-committing, you cannot sit on both the National Youth Council and a provincial youth forum. If you have any further questions, please reach out to youthcouncil@girlguides.ca.

**DISCLAIMER**

Please note that a governance review of the National Youth Council is currently underway. This governance review may impact the eligibility criteria we use for recruiting new members in 2024, and the National Youth Council terms of reference (ie: the role and responsibilities) starting in 2025. In order to not assume the outcome of the decision-making process, and to ensure a fair recruitment process, we are using this open call for applications from all Ranger-aged members.

We highly encourage all girls and youth to still apply!
