Volunteer Opportunity: Provincial Treasurer

Seeking inspired leaders to join Girl Guides of Canada–Guides du Canada Ontario Council
A better world, by girls

A better world…pause…by girls. That comma is important – it signifies a pause – strategically elevating the importance of a girl to our world and our organization. The girl must be at the centre of everything we do.
Girl Guides of Canada–Guides du Canada (GGC) is searching for one (1) volunteer Provincial Treasurer who can implement this vision and our mission to be a catalyst for girls empowering girls. We are seeking a Provincial Treasurer for a on- year term beginning in August 2021, with potential re-appointment annually to a maximum of five consecutive years. Through passionate and focused leadership, we can ensure GGC is relevant and sustainable well into the future as a truly girl-driven organization. Every girl in Ontario and Nunavut deserves a safe space where she can discover herself to be everything she wants to be.

This is an exciting time to be part of our organization as we evolve our offerings to ensure it is relevant and essential for girls in Ontario and Nunavut today. Are you willing to implement this ambitious transformational change?

What we need from you
We need Ontario Council members with passion, experience, and commitment from diverse communities.

Passion – We need believers and promoters of our vision, mission, and strategic priorities.

Experience – We know that delivering on the implementation of the strategic priorities will require added skills and strengths from our new Ontario Council members:

  • Diversity, Equity and Inclusion – you have a passion for and experience in the diversity, equity and inclusion space. Help us make Guiding in Ontario and Nunavut a safe space where every girl feels they belong.
  • Province/territorial-wide change – Ontario and Nunavut are big and change evolution can be hard.  Let us learn from your past successes in big change management endeavours and agility.
  • Membership growth – you have experience growing and retaining membership in other not-for-profit organizations.
  • Youth engagement and programming – you are passionate about the girl driven approach and can engage youth in the development and execution of dynamic program that will WOW every girl!

Commitment – We need you to commit the time to be an active and impactful Ontario Council member (Provincial Treasurer) for approximately five hours per week for a one-year term beginning in August 2021, with potential re-appointment annually to a maximum of five consecutive years. At the moment, Ontario Council is operating virtually; you must attend monthly Council meetings for approximately two hours per month, and once we return to in-person meetings, there is potential for four, two-day Council meetings each year in Toronto (travel expenses covered).  You also must be willing to become a member of GGC.

Diversity – We are committed to ensuring that Ontario Council reflects the richness of human diversity and the Canadian population. In addition to wide and varied skills, interests, and experiences, we want a diverse Council with regard to race, ethnicity, age and lived experiences. We seek to ensure that the decisions and directions from Ontario Council as a whole consider all of the various perspectives necessary as Ontario Council stewards GGC to be the place where every girl is empowered to be everything she wants to be.

What you get from us
Having a seat on the GGC Ontario Council is an opportunity to play an essential leadership role in an organization that is at a pivotal point in its 100+ year history. You will have the chance to implement the transformation of Canada’s largest and oldest movement for girls and women as it undertakes a most profound change that will, if we get this right, have a significant impact on the lives of girls across Canada.
You will become a catalyst for girls empowering girls to help them meet the most important person in their lives – themselves. With the girls at the centre, this is an opportunity to ensure that GGC is a safe space where every girl in Canada can have the voice and choice to be everything she wants to be.
So…can you see it now? A better world, by girls.
