Camps for Girls

GGC, Alberta Council runs a number of summer camps between July and August each year for registered GuidesPathfinders, and Rangers from across Alberta, the Northwest Territories and Yukon.  

Summer 2019 Camps Registration is closed.  

SOAR 2020

The Spirit of Adventure Rendezvous, SOAR for short, is a week-long provincial ‘back to basics’ outdoor camp sponsored by the BC Council of Girl Guides of Canada, for girls between the ages of 11 and 18. The event is July 24 to August 1, 2020.

Alberta Council Patrol
Alberta Council has been invited to send one patrol of 8 girls (Guides and Pathfinders, born 2005-2009) and 2 Guiders. The intention of this patrol is for girls who would not be attending with their own unit. Application deadline is June 30, 2019.

Independent Patrols
Units or groups may form their own patrol and attend SOAR on their own. Patrol Guiders are invited to register their interest directly on the SOAR website. Registration deadline is September 1, 2019. Selected patrols will be notified of their selection by October 1, 2019. Registration is not first come first serve.

OAL Camp Skills Training

This training will cover all the modules needed to obtain the Residential Camping and the Tent Camping
Streams of the Outdoor Activity Leadership Program.

Topics include: Leadership, pre-camp planning (paperwork, timelines, budget, parent meetings, kit lists, etc.), menus and cooking methods, sanitation, program ideas and activities, ceremonies, safety, tents and tarps, knots and gadgets, axes and knives, questions and answers and participant sharing.

Date:  OAL Residential Camping – Saturday, June 1, 2019
           OAL Tent Camping – Saturday, June 1, 2019 to Sunday June 2, 2019.  This program requires that participants stay overnight in a tent. You can bring your own tent or we can supply a tent. Please let us know if you are bringing your own or sharing with a friend.
Bonus:  Staying for both days will give you both residential and tent camping streams.
Time:  Saturday, June 1 - 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for Residential only.  Those staying overnight to complete the tenting modules will be finished by noon Sunday.
Place: Camp Sherbino (near Sylvan Lake) - map available after registering.
Cost:   Day only – Saturday, June 1: $20.00 + GST = $21.00
            Both Saturday and Sunday - June 1 to 2: $35.00 + GST = $36.75
Deadline to register:  May 1, 2019
                                     Please include any health issues, including food allergies, as part of the registration process in the field provided.

Bring:   Health form, dishes, water bottle (filled), sunscreen, insect repellent, etc.
              Dress for the weather as we plan to be outside all day.
      Meals will be supplied by the cooking sessions.
      Bedroll if staying overnight. 
      Lawn chair if you wish.

For those travelling from farther away, or those who find it more convenient: 
You may arrive at camp any time between 7 p.m. - 10 p.m. Friday, May 31. You will be able to set up a tent to stay for both Friday and Saturday nights. However, you must bring your own Friday snack and Saturday breakfast (or go into Sylvan lake for meals), and amuse yourself Friday evening. Trainers will be on site setting up but the training will not start until Saturday at 9 a.m.
