Camps for Girls

GGC, Alberta Council runs a number of summer camps between July and August each year for registered GuidesPathfinders, and Rangers from across Alberta, the Northwest Territories and Yukon.  
Alberta Council Arts Camp South  

When? Sunday, July 5 – Saturday, July 11, 2020
Where? Jubilee Girl Guide Camp, Cochrane, Alberta
Who? Girls registered as 2nd & 3rd year Guides and 1st & 2nd year Pathfinders in the 2018/2019 year from Alberta, Northwest Territories and Yukon (Girls born 2006 – 2009)
What: Program focuses on a variety of art activities, campfires, games and friendship.
Registration: Registration form. Register by April 29, 2020. Registration is on a first come first serve basis. Cost: $250.00 + GST (Cost is being subsidized by Alberta Council; Actual cost of event = $307.88/person) If you have any questions, please contact Dana Wagner – any-program@girlguides.ca

Sea to Sky Alberta Council Guide Camp  

When? July 12-19, 2020
Who? Open to girls registered in Guides in the 2019/2020 year from Alberta, the Northwest Territories and Yukon. Girls should have completed at least one year in Guides and birthdate range should be 2008-2010. Girls should be comfortable to be away from home and able to live in a tent for one week.
Where? Cold Lake, AB
What: Canoeing, Crafts, Wilderness STEM, Airplanes and more! Guides will spend two half days working on their canoeing skills, participate in aviation-themed STEM activities, enjoy paddleboarding, kayaking, being a real mermaid, as well as a variety of land based classic camp activities to choose from. The last day of camp will be spent at the Cold Lake Air Show where we will get to see some incredible aircraft in action!
Lifesaving Program Option: Sea to Sky Campers will have the option to partake in the Canadian Swim Patrol (Rookie, Ranger, Star) or Bronze Star Lifesaving qualifications as part of their daily camp programming. Please see www.lifesavingsociety.com for more information on these programs. (limited to 10 campers). Girls will spend the mornings doing the course, and afternoons canoeing, at waterfront, or other programming options.
Prerequisite: All girls must have a completed boat test entered into IMIS prior to camp start. For the Lifesaving program Option, camper must have achieved a minimum of Swim Kids 7, or be able to swim 50 m continuously for these options.
Registration: Registration Form. by April 30. Registration is on a first come first serve basis.
Cost: $250 + GST (+$50 for Swim Patrol, +$125 for Bronze Star), transportation for bussing will also be in addition to the camp fees ($85). (Cost is being subsidized by Alberta council; Actual camp cost = $470/person)
Note: Northern transportation assistance is available to youth from the Northwest Territories and Yukon to attend an Alberta Council sponsored event / camp.
Rangers who are 16+ are welcome to attend to assist at the waterfront (minimum qualification Bronze Cross) or as general supervision.

Colour Your World - Alberta Council Guide Camp  

When? July 19-25, 2020
Who? 3rd year Guides & 1st Year Pathfinders (born in 2007 and 2008)
Where? Camp Jubilee, Centennial South, Cochrane, AB
What:  Open to girls registered as a 3rd year Guide or 1st year Pathfinder in the 2019/20 year from Alberta, Northwest Territories and Yukon. Do you have dreams about traveling around the world? Colour Your World focuses on International Guiding by trying foods, dances, games and crafts from around the world. This residential camp provides girls with the opportunity to get to know the 5 World Centres in a small camp setting. We will be doing a day trip to Banff, where we will hike and explore the National Park.
Registration: Registration Form. Register by April 20, 2020. Registration is on a first-come first-serve basis. Cost: $250.00 + GST (the actual camp cost is subsidized by Alberta Council). For more information contact the Provincial International Adviser at any-international@girlguides.ca.

Horse Riding Adventure Pathfinder and Ranger Camp  

When? August 9 – 13, 2020
Who? Open to girls registered as Pathfinders or Rangers in the 2019/2020 year from Alberta, the Northwest Territories and Yukon
Where? Bighorn Country
What: Calling all horse enthusiasts - Learn horsemanship skills including how to care for, how to saddle and, of course, ride your horse. Build leadership, self-confidence and independence on adventures out on the trails with your horse and all your new friends from across the province at this week long horse riding adventure.
Prerequisite: Girls must have at least two consecutive nights in a tent.
Registration: Registration From. Register by April 29, 2020. Registration is on a first come first serve basis. Cost: $250.00 + GST (Cost is being subsidized by Alberta council; Actual camp cost = $471/person) Note: Northern transportation assistance is available to youth from the Northwest Territories and Yukon to attend an Alberta Council sponsored event / camp. Where? Tangletrees Girl Guide Camp, Mulhurst, Alberta
Who? Girls registered as 2nd & 3rd year Guides and 1st & 2nd year Pathfinders in the 2018/2019 year from Alberta, Northwest Territories and Yukon (Girls born 2006 – 2009)
What: Program focuses on a variety of art activities, campfires, games and friendship.

Summer Backpaking Camp  

When? Aug. 16 – Aug. 22, 2020
Who? Open to girls registered as Pathfinders or Rangers in the 2019/20 year from Alberta, Northwest Territories and Yukon
Where? Prepare in Calgary AB and trip in Banff National Park Looking for a challenge?
What: Show your adventurous side and join us on a four-day backpacking trip. We will meet for two days in Calgary to learn about gear, backcountry camping and navigation, and to plan and prepare for our trip. We will then bus to the trailhead to begin our adventure. Prerequisite: Girls must be in good physical condition and capable of carrying a loaded backpack (up to 30% of their body weight) for up to 12 km per day.
Registration: Registration Form. Register by April 29/20. Registration is on a first come first serve basis. Cost: $250.00 + GST (Cost is being subsidized by Alberta Council; Actual camp cost = $435/person) Note: Northern transportation assistance is available to youth from the Northwest Territories and Yukon to attend an Alberta Council sponsored event / camp.
