The National Scholarship program recognizes our members' achievements while supporting them as they pursue their educational goals and rewarding career paths.
Scholarships are open to girl and adult members who are pursuing post-secondary education at a recognized college, university or trades program. Whether you're studying engineering, education, political science, or anything in between, there's a scholarship that's right for you!
Guiding involvement and participation are important criteria in the awarding of National Scholarships.
Scholarships are available for both full-time and part-time studies.
Application deadline: April 9, 2018 at 11:59pm EST.
General Requirements for all Applicants:
- Applicants must be currently registered GGC members.
- Scholarships are conditional on acceptance or continuation in a full-time or part-time program at a recognized post-secondary institution.
- Recognized post-secondary institutions include universities, colleges and vocational schools where high school completion is the normal entrance requirement (unless entering as an adult student).
Applicants must remain a member of Girl Guides of Canada for the upcoming 2018-2019 Guiding year.
Actuarial Foundation of Canada National Scholarship
For registered members of GGC who are pursuing a post-secondary degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics or computer science.
Col. Karen Ritchie Memorial National Scholarship
For registered members of GGC who are entering their first year of an engineering program.
Dr. Roberta Bondar National Scholarship
For registered members of GGC who are entering their third or fourth year or postgraduate studies in math, science, applied science or technology.
Environmental Studies National Scholarship
For registered members of GGC who are pursuing a post-secondary degree with particular emphasis in the field of environmental studies or related fields.
Norma Osler Education National Scholarship
For registered members of GGC who are pursuing a post-secondary degree with particular emphasis in the field of education (including teachers' college).
GGC First Year Full-time National Scholarship
For registered members of GGC who are entering their first year of post-secondary studies.
GGC Second Year Full-time National Scholarship
For registered members of GGC who are entering their second year of post-secondary studies.
GGC Third Year Full-time National Scholarship
For registered members of GGC who are entering their third year of post-secondary studies.
GGC Fourth Year Full-time National Scholarship
For registered members of GGC who are entering their fourth year of post-secondary studies.
GGC Postgraduate National Scholarship
For registered members of GGC who are pursuing a postgraduate degree, diploma or certificate.
GGC Part-time Studies National Scholarship
For registered members of GGC who are pursuing a degree, diploma or certificate on a part-time basis. As per the Canada Student Loans Program, a part-time student is defined as one who is enrolled in 20-59 per cent of a full course load.
FAQs – Submitting a National Scholarship Application
What are the requirements for applying for a Girl Guides of Canada National Scholarship?
In order to apply for a scholarship you must:
- Be a girl or adult member of Girl Guides of Canada.
- Be continuing your GGC membership in the upcoming year and remain an active participant.
- Be enrolled or enrolling in a recognized post-secondary institution, which includes university, college or vocational school.
- Have your most recent school transcript available to upload with your application.
- Have your iMIS (membership) number at hand. Note: it would also be helpful to have a copy of your iMIS record so you can review your Guiding awards, positions and volunteer roles.
- Create an account on our online application system.
- Not be a past GGC National Scholarship recipient.
How do I create my online account in order to apply for a scholarship?
Before you can begin your application, you will need to create an online account. Click on the Sign Up button under Need An Account? and follow the prompts. Once you have created your account you will receive a confirmation email from FluidReview, our online review tool. Please click on the confirmation link in the email to complete the account creation process. Please remember your account email and password so that you can log into your account to make edits to your application.
If you applied online for a GGC national scholarship in recent years and continue to use the same email address, your account will still be active and you will not have to create a new account. Simply log in to your old account and start a new application.
How do I complete the online application?
Once you have created your online account, there are three steps to complete in order to submit your application:
- Step 1: Complete the questions in the online application form
- Step 2: Upload your school transcript (see details below)
- Step 3: Submit your application
Am I able to save and edit my GGC National Scholarship application?
Yes, you are able to edit and save your scholarship application. You can continue working on it at a later date by signing back into your account. Please note, however, that once you submit your application you can no longer make edits.
When is the GGC National Scholarship deadline?
Please submit your application by 11:59pm EST April 9, 2018. Late applications will not be accepted.
How do I submit my school transcript?
To submit your school transcript, you will need to upload the transcript into your account as prompted. If you don't have an electronic version of your transcript, please scan and save a PDF copy of your transcript, which you can then upload with your application. Please take a moment to review your uploaded transcript to ensure it is clear and readable.
How do I sign my scholarship application?
To sign your application, use your mouse to write your signature on the line provided.
When will I be notified about the status of my scholarship application?
Scholarship recipients will be notified by the end of June 2018 after the review process is completed. Unsuccessful scholarship applicants will be notified by the end of July 2018.
How are scholarship applications evaluated?
Applications will be evaluated in five areas, for a total of 65 points, as follows:

Can I apply for more than one GGC National Scholarship?
Yes, members can apply for more than one GGC National Scholarship. However, each member can only be awarded one scholarship. In addition, while former recipients will not be awarded another scholarship, previously unsuccessful applicants can re-apply.
I am the recipient of a provincial scholarship. Can I still apply to a national scholarship?
Yes, recipients of provincial scholarships are still eligible for national scholarships if they fit the GGC National Scholarship requirements.

What should I include in my short essay questions?
This is where you can let reviewers know what being a member of Girl Guides of Canada has meant to you. We are looking for honesty and your personal connection to Guiding. Elaborate on or describe:
- The role that Guiding has played in your life.
- How Guiding has assisted with your personal growth.
- What Guiding has offered that you could not find anywhere else.
- How others have positively benefited from your Guiding knowledge and experiences.
- What receiving this scholarship will mean to you.
Note: Please provide specific examples whenever you can.

No – scholarships can only be submitted online. If you are not able to submit your application online, please email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 416.487.5281 x242.
