Every member of Girl Guides in Canada is part of an international movement of 10 million Girl Guides and Girl Scouts in 153 countries through the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS).

World Thinking Day (WTD) happens every year on February 22 and celebrates our global Guiding movement. It’s a chance for Girl Guides across Canada and around the world to join together and speak out on issues that affect girls and young women.

What is World Thinking Day

World Thinking Day is a celebration of 10 million girls worldwide that has taken place on every February 22 since 1926. It’s a day for Girl Guides and Girl Scouts around the world to make their voices heard and make a difference locally and globally.

World Thinking Day is one of the most important days in the Guiding calendar, and a chance for members to think about the big issues impacting youth worldwide. In the past, World Thinking Days have been focused on girl-driven global issues like poverty, inequality, and access to education.

World Thinking Day 2024 theme

This year's theme, 'Our World, Our Thriving Future,' gives youth a global perspective on the environment, sustainability, gender equality, peace, and poverty. On International Day of the Girl 2020, WAGGGS asked youth members from 100 countries what issues most concerned them and found that the number one worry was the environment. This year’s World Thinking Day is the final part of a three-year journey for members to become environmental changemakers.

The WAGGGS activity pack leads girls through discussion and hands-on activities that help them understand their impact on the environment and consider how we can work together to create a better world, by girls.
