Design, Evidence and Insight Lead

GGC is recruiting a Design, Evidence and Insight Lead. This is an exciting opportunity for an established research, evaluation or insight professional to make a major contribution to Canada’s largest organization of girls and women. Help us build our organizational performance frameworks, look for opportunities to meaningfully listen to and learn from girls, and seek out and use evidence to inform what we do.

The Design, Evidence and Insight Lead will provide:

Strategic and technical leadership

  • Play a major leadership role in identifying and developing important organizational practices relating to evaluation and strategic learning which can include: organizational performance frameworks, research and evaluation policies and practices, approaches to management and use of data – and beyond.
  • Lead GGC’s regular data-collection and learning processes, including the undertaking of member, girl and employee consultation processes or surveys.
  • Support staff to effectively monitor GGC’s current Strategic plan, and work with leaders across the organization (this includes both members and staff, adults and young women) to promote ongoing learning around our strategic foci and priorities.
  • Proactively seek, and actively respond, to opportunities to support other departments and teams across GGC in their work by providing strategic advice on design, evidence or learning, facilitating access to other technical support and enabling or managing services that enable or enhance their work
  • Take technical leadership on defined priorities, including design and evaluation of specific priority initiatives at GGC.  Expect a healthy mix of ‘rolling up your sleeves’ and designing and managing processes for others.

Leadership and management

  • Champion the practice of intentional design, evidence-informed learning and knowledge-into-action; help us identify how and where we can support a culture where such practices are part of our day-to-day work.  Wherever possible, look for appropriate opportunities to help others access and understand ‘girls voices’ and girls’ perspectives in their work.
  • Play a key role as a senior leader in our Strategy vertical – joining a dynamic management team that supports our advocacy/policy, girl engagement, fundraising and strategic partnership functions.
  • Hold management responsibility for the Design, Evidence and Insight function – including providing leadership on major initiatives, operational planning and delivery, budget management.
  • Provide strong and active leadership to those around you. Strive to model effective, supportive, collaborative leadership practices in your day-to-day work.

You should apply if:   

  • You have broad knowledge of fundamentals in research and evaluation practice – including deep knowledge in research design, participatory methods, qualitative analysis or quantitative analysis.
  • You have extensive practical experience supporting organizations and initiatives to integrate design, evaluation and strategic learning into their work in a management or senior leadership capacity.
  • You have graduate-level training or significant years (5+) of practical experience.
  • You’ve built strong existing relationships/networks and good knowledge of the landscape in Canada relating to: social innovation, nonprofit evaluation, research and evaluation in youth-focused organizations or similar.
  • You possess highly developed interpersonal skills, including excellent ability to communicate (reading and speaking), negotiate and influence, identify and resolve conflict, collaborate with a range of stakeholders, and incorporate diverse perspectives into work.
  • You have experience recruiting and managing research and evaluation staff and consultants – including the ability to frame needs and support technical staff to undertake work of high quality.

  • You are excited by the prospect of rolling up your sleeves and working to leverage the potential of over 76,000 girls and 20,000 volunteers to deliver on GGC’s mission “to be a catalyst for girls empowering girls”

Additional assets:

  • You have experience working in similar organizational contexts – for example: organizations with large numbers of active members, or organizations working with young people or girls.
