Volun-Try: Short Term Volunteer Opportunities
Welcome to Girl Guides! Would you like to give volunteering a try? You can join Volun-Try, a short-term volunteer program to give people a taste of what it's like to be a Guider in a Girl Guide unit!
From now until June, you will provide additional support to the Guiders already in the unit by facilitating meetings, setting up activities and chaperoning events. With more volunteers, we can share responsibilities more easily and give more girls a chance to make new friends and explore what Guiding is all about!

Volun-Try Girl Guides FAQs
How long will I be a volunteer with Girl Guides?
Volun-Try volunteers will work with units in weekly meeting as early as mid-February until the end of the Guiding year. The amount of unit meetings you will be expected to attend will vary based on the unit – once you are placed and connected to your team of Guiders to work out the details!
*Some units may end earlier.
What do I get out of being a volunteer?
By volunteering with Girl Guides, you’ll get to help units bring more girls into the fun and adventure of Guiding. They’ll get to have a place where they can just be their silly, creative and confident selves. You’ll also get to learn new things for yourself, and meet a community of smart, passionate volunteers who believe in creating a better world, by girls.
What the difference between a Volun-Try and a regular volunteer Guider?
Designed as a short-term role, the Volun-Try volunteers are meant to support the existing volunteer team running the unit. You’ll complete the application form and a Police Record Check (paid for by Girl Guides of Canada) before being placed into a unit. You will then be provided with a ‘Glide Path’ to become a fully screened Member through resources and supports available whilst already volunteering with the unit! This means if you’d like to continue to volunteer, you’ll have all the pieces ready to jump into a Guider role.
When can I apply?
This opportunity is open now. Applications will be closed in March.
