Advertising and Marketing

Girl Guides of Canada - Everything she wants to beEach year, Ontario Council works with the Membership Growth team to develop a marketing plan to recruit new girl and adult members. Campaigns are designed to attract new members to discover Girl Guides. Advertising is placed in a combination of print, online, television, radio and out-of-home such as mall posters and Tims TV. Campaigns are reviewed annually to see what is working and to test new methods.

Targeted ads are placed in specific communities based on needs identified by the Administrative Community Leader (ACL) and/or Community Guiders.

Media

Every week, units are doing amazing activities. Let your community know all the fun and adventures Guiding has to offer. If you are planning a special outing, activity or event, contact the national media team at media@girlguides.ca for media support.

Recruitment event subsidy, promotional item and event kit guidelines

Please review the guidelines below before applying. Processing time can be up to four weeks. Please consider the processing time when planning your event. Contact membergrowth@girlguides.ca. with urgent inquiries, however, there is no guarantee that events outside of this time window will be processed.

Guidelines

  • Requests will be reviewed and a subsidy amount will be confirmed (if applicable) if the event is approved.
  • An application must be submitted with event details for both free opportunities as well as fee-incurring opportunities when promotional material and event kit items are requested.
  • Invoices and all associated paperwork must be submitted and uploaded via the subsidy form.
  • Please review Guiding is for Everyone to ensure the activity follows inclusivity guidelines. Guiding is for Everyone is a comprehensive resource where you’ll find the philosophy and framework for how GGC approaches diversity, equity and inclusion, with guidance on making Guiding activities, events and programming more inclusive. Events that do not meet these guidelines will not be approved.
  • The event must provide an opportunity to actively recruit new members to be eligible for the subsidy.
    • If the event includes the use of the subsidy and cookie selling, recruitment must be the main purpose of the event. We will not approve the use of the subsidy if there is cookie selling but no recruitment involved.
    • If the event is only cookie selling, we will approve the shipment of promotional items and the use of event kit items.
  • The subsidy will cover the cost of the booth or table for the event. In addition, it can cover up to $50 for engagement activity supplies.
    • The subsidy will not cover the cost of snacks, drinks, water, etc.
    • If you anticipate needing supplies for an activity, please include them in your total cost as well as a brief description.
    • The cost of activity supplies must be approved during the subsidy application process.
    • All relevant receipts must be submitted to be reimbursed within 60 days of the event and within the financial year (September – August). Any received after the financial year-end deadline will not be processed.
  • If requesting event kit items, you will be required to sign an equipment loan agreement. You will receive this at the time of approval.
  • Event kit items are subject to availability.
  • If you need a contract signed, it should be additionally uploaded to the contract submission form for ON Council. Please allow up to 14 business days for processing.
  • If you require insurance for your event, it is the responsibility of the unit or volunteer initiating the contract/application to obtain the insurance documents required as part of a contract/application. Insurance information (forms and documents) can be found in Member Zone on the Insurance page.
  • Members must be in some form of Guiding apparel during the event (e.g. a scarf, T-shirt, etc.)
