Leadership Development Programs

Is your daughter a future leader? Our Leadership Development Programs (LDP) are designed to teach girls the skills they need to lead others well. While each level of this program can be a standalone leadership experience, it can also be the starting point of our four-level leadership program, with each level helping campers to build on skills obtained at the previous level (though it’s not strictly necessary to take one as a prerequisite to another). Some schools also allow Leadership Program participation to be counted as the mandatory school volunteer requirement! Check with your local school board for eligibility.

Leadership Development Program One (LDP 1)
Overnight Camp Leadership Program
Based upon the Girl Guide values, this program is a great way for girls to learn about their leadership strengths and develop new skills. Under the supervision of our experienced Leadership staff, campers will investigate leadership styles, study what makes an effective leader and put into practice their learning as they spend time working with younger campers. We make sure that girls have fun at camp, too, by giving them time to participate in traditional camp activities in our beautiful natural surroundings.

Leadership Development Program Two (LDP 2)

In the second-level Leadership Development Program, our campers continue to learn about different areas of leadership and how to work well with others. Campers will participate in large group leadership tasks, observe the leadership styles of camp staff members and assist in leading activities for younger campers, including a chance to work one-on-two with younger campers. Girls will also be challenged to create small group-time fillers, a service project of designing a large group-wide game, all while receiving continued mentoring and guidance from our experienced Leadership staff. Girls in this program also get to participate in the fun camp activities they enjoy, such as swimming, archery and crafts.

Leadership Development Program Three (LDP 3)
Overnight Camp Leadership Program
Our third level of leadership program focuses on differing styles of leadership and the effective things that leaders say and do for success. There will be opportunities to work one-on-two with younger campers, showcase time-filler activities with smaller groups and observe the leadership styles of our experienced Leadership staff. Campers also get the opportunity to participate as an assistant instructor to deliver programs to campers in all areas of camp and shadow a staff member as they work with campers on a site. Plus, they'll get to play a role in all camp activities and assist with delivery of these larger scale programs. If instructors are available, we may offer girls the chance to earn swimming and first aid certifications at camp.

Special Notes about this program:
  • Many leadership programs are suitable to be counted as the mandatory school volunteer requirement – check with your local school board for eligibility.
  • Weekends are a really busy time for our leaderships program. Girls in this program do not have an option of going home or being visited at camp.

Leadership Development Program Four (LDP 4)
Overnight Camp Leadership Program
This one-month leadership program prepares girls to become their best while passing along the skills, confidence and qualifications to enhance their leadership capabilities in a camp setting. The LDP 4 program focuses on skills required for leading children, including specific instructional skills in many different program areas. Girls will be given many opportunities to practice their growing leadership abilities with campers, including leading a program session and completing an internship working on a site. These experiences provide girls with a thorough understanding of working in child-centered environments.

Special Notes about this program:
  • For team building, near the start of the program, campers will participate in a very short, easy, mandatory paddling trip together. This trip is offered away from our main camp sites and girls will travel there by camp van or bus. This trip may require girls to sign their own, additional waivers.
  • Girls in this program have an option of going home once during their month at camp. If busing is available, it will be provided free of charge for this “go home” time. There are no other visiting opportunities while your daughter is at LDP 4 camp.
  • Laundry opportunities and laundry supplies are provided for the girls during their month-long stay at camp.
  • The LPD 4 programs at Doe Lake and Woolsey are run in collaboration with the local school board and offer a high school credit. Girls will work on GPP30 Leadership and Peer Support while doing regular LDP program activities. (Please note - for this high school credit course, we require a minimum number of campers to enroll).
