Local Recognition Ceremonies

A Local Recognition Ceremony is held by multi-units or a community to recognize achievement.

Eligibility:

  • Ceremonies should include the presentation of Canada Cord and/or Trail Blazer Leadership Award - Gold Award to eligible youth members.
  • Other awards that can be presented include Lady Baden-Powell, Outstanding Youth Award, Bronze/Silver/Gold Merit Award, Medal of Merit, Ontario Award, Honorary Life Award, National GGC Awards, Recognition of members with 50+ milestone years of membership.
  • Girl-focused event.
  • Must be multi-unit.
  • Must be open to the wider GGC community, including caregivers of girl members.
  • This is not an advancement ceremony.
  • Must take place in spring 2025.

Application process for funding:

  • The deadline to apply for funding for a spring 2025 ceremony is March 11.
  • Applicants will be notified of the approval by March 21.
  • Note: You may be asked to coordinate with other Guiders to combine your events if they are close to each other.

New! Registration pages will be available for Local Recognition Ceremonies. These pages will include a space for members to share the names of award recipients and the awards they will be receiving with the event organizers. Confirmation of the date, time and location of the event will be due at least four weeks before the event to allow sufficient time to build and launch a registration page.

Available funding:

Ontario Council will subsidize up to $650 for each event.

Recommended expense allocation:

  • No more than $300 for venue fee
  • $350 for food, decorations, programming and miscellaneous items
  • Funds not spent on the venue can be used for other materials

The funding will not cover:

  • Canada Cord and Trail Blazer Leadership Award - Gold Award pins (this is a unit expense)
  • Travel/mileage
  • Phone calls

The funds will be reimbursed after expense forms and receipts are submitted. Venue rentals that require a signed contract must be submitted using the Contract Submission form and direct payment to the venue can be requested. You may request a purchase card for event expenses.

Planning tips for a Local Recognition Ceremony:

Include girl members in the planning. Prompt with questions such as:
  • How many girls/units would you like to invite?
  • What theme should the ceremony have?
  • Where and when will it be?
  • How long will the ceremony be?
  • Who will we invite?

Invite guest speakers and special guests:

It is the responsibility of the planning team If you wish to invite your mayor or other local dignitary.  Ontario Council is not able to support these requests. You may also consider inviting a member of Ontario Council to your event. To submit an invitation, complete the Council and Youth Forum Invitation.
